Life on the Edge
The Morning News

Watching the news today made me feel suicidal. This morning on my way to work I was mentally composing the note I would leave for my family. If I happen to catch the news in the morning, it always makes me cry and it usually ruins my day. It's never made me so disgusted with life before. I don't want to live in a reality where people do things like this. Here is a link to the story that was so devastating today:

I think everyone should take a moment to reflect on the series of events that had to happen to make these people work together to do something so horrible. Can you imagine how horrible their lives had to be as children to think it was ok to hold a baby's head under water while beating her with belts? How could a mother have so much hatred for her own child? What could a two year old possibly have done to inspire such treatment? What went through that child's mind while she was being tortured and murdered by the people who she loved most in the world? Did she blame herself? Did she say I'm sorry mommy when her head was pulled out of the water? I could go on, but I won't because I take these questions very seriously and I know I will never have answers to any of them.
I'm sick with mourning for this child. The only ray of light in this whole day is that she died. She doesn't have to live with the pain and horror of what her parents did to her. She doesn't have to spend the rest of her childhood enduring such treatment from the people who are supposed to love her the most. She doesn't have to live with the possibility that someday she will do the same to her children. I don't have the specific verse, but in the book of Isaiah (my favorite) it says that God allows innocent children and righteous adults to die before their time out of mercy, to spare them from the suffering and pain they will experience in life. I, for one, can't wait.

Those people are absolutely insane! What a horrible thing to have done to that poor baby! Now the mom is going to cop a deal and pretend it's all the stepdad's fault?!
Sometimes you have to learn to shut out the news if and when it becomes too overwhelming. I like knowing what i s going on around me, in and out of my world so I do watch the news but I've learned to filter it so it doesn't bother me as much as before hearing news like that. I still feel for the child, but I let go because there's nothing I can do for her.

Sometimes you have to learn to shut out the news if and when it becomes too overwhelming.
I haven't quite learned how to do that yet. I usually just don't watch the news. I take it much too personally. I mostly get my news online where I can choose what to click on. That way I filter out most of the bad stuff. Still, I feel kind of like I'm cheating when I do that. Victims deserve to have their story heard. If we don't know just how horrible this world is we won't be motivated to change it.
